Governor Phil Bredesen Appoints Council to Aid in Development

and Implementation of Electronic Health Care Records for Tennesseans

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—Governor Phil Bredesen announced yesterday the appointments to the Governor's eHealth Advisory Council, and included was Knoxvillian Alan Hill, executive director for the Innovation Valley Health Information Network (IVhin). The Council was created by Executive Order 35, which is intended to coordinate among ehealth initiatives across the state with a common goal, the successful development and implementation of electronic medical records (EMRs).

Ultimately, it is about coming together to improve the quality of health care available for Tennesseans,” said Governor Phil Bredesen. “This is an exceptionally strong group of technology and industry leaders who are in a position to share valuable expertise. Realistically, there are technological challenges when you attempt to integrate the wide variety of systems involved in the delivery of care, but the advice of the Council will generate significant positive momentum.”

Hill has 24 years experience in the Information Technology/Telecommunications field including various positions in consulting, direct sales support and sales management. Hill spent 20 years at BellSouth, and also started the ClearPath Group, a Technology Alliance of six technology firms in East Tennessee. Currently, as the executive director of IVhin, Hill is establishing the new organization’s board of directors, building stakeholder involvement, communicating the value of IVhin, and serving as liaison with partners and new members to make this network a reality for the region.

“I am extremely excited and proud to be a part of the Governor's eHealth Advisory Council,” said Hill. “I look forward to representing the East Tennessee community to make a positive impact on programs that can enhance the quality of life for Tennesseans.”

Hill is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and has been active in community and technology circles by serving on the Nine Counties, One Vision Technology Committee, Technology 2020 Board, United Way campaign for BellSouth, Promise Keepers Leadership Teams, and Leadership Team with the East Tennessee Technology Council, and is a member of the Rotary Club of Knoxville.

This Council is important to me and the citizens of Tennessee because it will make our health care system more efficient and reliable,” said Hill.

The executive order calls for the Governor's eHealth Advisory Council to create a plan to promote the use of electronic medical records by health care stakeholders across Tennessee and to identify obstacles to the implementation of effective health information infrastructure. The Council will be called upon to advise state government on how to more effectively promote the successful adoption of EMRs. One of the Governor’s primary goals for this Council is to offer constructive paths to minimize and eliminate duplicative efforts while leveraging innovation.

The Council is made up of sixteen members representing Tennessee’s provider community, employers, regional health care information organizations, payers and consumers.
